Throughout my teaching career, I have made a concerted effort to help students develop both as critical thinkers and as innovative problem solvers. First and foremost, I am committed to expanding the opportunities available to young people by giving them the intellectual skills necessary to lead rewarding and successful lives. I incorporate a variety of process-oriented strategies designed to promote critical reading and writing skills. In my classroom, I stress that the writing process actually involves the discovery of meaning rather than merely dressing thought in words. In short, I take a constructivist approach to teaching that is distinctly student-centered and interdisciplinary.
An author myself, my publications deal with a wide array of topics, ranging from political theory to aesthetics. My first book was a secondary annotated bibliography on John Winthrop, the first governor of Massachusetts. In addition to academic works, I have also authored a novel entitled Pilgrim of the Sublime, and I am currently completing my second full length work of fiction, a satire.
In both my personal and professional life, I place a high emphasis on community involvement and service. In my advisory role with students, I strive to help them become well-rounded in a variety of areas beyond the conventional classroom, encouraging them to volunteer for philanthropic programs that involve community outreach.
